SYNESTHESIA GALLERY presents two sets of Sound Art performances in response to Anne Katrine Senstad’s solo exhibition VEIEJA ESCUELERA curated by Clayton Harley.
August 16, 2026 – 5-10 pm – Exhibition Closing Performances with Chuck Bettis and SOKIO. Sokio is a Chilean-born interdisciplinary artist, composer, and cultural organizer whose work spans over two decades across opera, sound art, theater, installations, music supervision, and curatorial practice. Rooted in experimental composition and political inquiry, Sokio’s projects explore identity, exile, and the legacy of the Latin American avant-garde through hybrid forms of performance, media, and community engagement. His recent opera-in-progress Splitting/Absence—based on the life and work of Gordon Matta-Clark—first presented in 2025, draws support from The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Carnegie Hall, The Clemente Center, National Sawdust, the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Chile, and The Estate of Gordon Matta-Clark. He is the founder and director of New Latin Wave in New York. Chuck Bettis was raised in the fertile harDCore soil, nourished within Baltimore’s enigmatic avant-garde gatherings, and currently blossoming in New York’s experimental realms. His unique blend of electronics and throat has led him into various collaborations with great musicians from around the globe. He has performed live collaborations with John Zorn, Fred Frith, YoshimiO, Mephista and Afrirampo to name a few. He has recorded & played live with; Ikue Mori, Nautical Almanac, Matmos, Berangere Maximin, Yellow Swans, Toshio Kajiwara, Jad Atoui and more. Chuck has held residencies at The Stone (NYC), INA GRAM (Paris, France), Kurimanzutto Gallery (NYC), EMS (Stockholm, Sweden) and Harvestworks (NYC).
August 12, 2026, 7-10 pm: The Eclipse Performances with MV Carbon and Bruno Coviello. MV Carbon’s sound addresses psychological feedback through poetry, music, and mechanics. It is vitalized by the immediate environment: rhythmic backgrounds, extended vessels, and struck handmade tools; electric cello processed through meticulous chains of effects; and synths melting time. Bruno Coviello is a producer and composer whose “razor sharp, sensually charged production skills” (Fader) have been featured on releases by Light Asylum (DFA Records), the cult classic film Party Monster, and the recent documentary My Brother’s Killer.

Laura Wolf and MAYSUN will present a collaborative ambient sound performance within Senstad’s neon sculpture environment. Laura Wolf is a vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and producer. Her work has been featured in NPR All Songs Considered, Stereogum, Paste, and Fader. She is a Wurlitzer Foundation fellow, member of the Recording Academy and holds a BM in Opera from Northwestern University. Etienne Mason/MAYSUN is a composer and sound artist whose work is centered around modular systems, DIY electronics, and cyclical processing. He develops adaptable sound structures that reshape spatial context and performance.
